First images of the new Fiat car have been leaked a few days ago all over the web. As we have been used to these kinds of things before, we decided to wait for Fiat to release the official images. Most of the manufacturers do the same after their images have been leaked and this was the case once more.

This is the first Fiat’s brand new sedan to be made in China specifically for the Chinese market. A pretty big step for Fiat in the quest for conquering the big share of the Chinese market in the forthcoming years. Fiat has supplied journalists all over the world with a few snaps of what’s to be revealed on Monday, 23rd April this year at the Beijing Motor Show.

Name Viaggio or Fei Xiang for the Chinese market means voyage and flying respectively, a twin-project between Chrysler and Fiat is a vehicle that is supposed to break the usual patterns in the Chinese market’s compact sedan class in terms of refinement and craftsmanship. A pretty bold statement, but a reasonable one judging from the reports on the Chinese automakers’ quality and refinement in their respective models.

Based on the same platform named CUSW (Compact US Wide) as the Dodge Dart, another example of the latest models coming from the same group, it is derived originally from the bestselling Alfa Romeo Giulietta. There’s some nice info and history for you right there!

Back to the car in question. According to Fiat, this car is 4,679mm in length, 1,850mm in overall width and with a 2,708mm wheelbase, the Viaggio is the new C-segment benchmark. The Fiat Viaggio will be the only car in its segment to exclusively offer sophisticated turbo-charged engines; the 1.4L Tjet in both 120 hp and 150 hp outputs matched to either a 5-speed manual transmission or the latest Dual Dry Clutch Transmission (DDCT) developed by Fiat Powertrain.

Designed by the Fiat Group Style Centre in Torino, the Viaggio has a timeless, clean-surfaced expressive exterior design that blends fluid and curvaceous forms with strong proportions. A contemporary Fiat “face” ensures unmistakable brand identity. Rear tail lamps with refined LED lights deliver an image of superior quality.

This car was designed in Fiat’s headquarters and design department in Torino, Italy but will be made in in the new Gac-Fiat World Class Manufacturing plant in Changsha, Hunan province. The first cars will be produced from July and will go on sale in the third quarter of this year. Its international reveal will be done at this months’ Beijing Motor Show together with GAC-Fiat, Jeep, Chrysler, Maserati and Ferrari in the Luxury hall E-4 of the motor show.
