Official: The New Ferrari F12 Berlinetta
Finally! We missed all the low-resolution, non interesting leaked images, waited for the full release. It is finally here. Ferrari waited for February 29th to reveal it, in somewhat significant manner. Even though this date comes once every four years, we hope that Ferrari will drop a few more models in between. Back to the new car!
Completely new engine, placed in the mid-front-engine layout, exceptional and innovative design, all finished up with an attractive new Rosso Berlinetta three-layer colour, this really is a proper Ferrari in all areas.
Engine in the F12 Berlinetta is a naturally aspirated V12 with 6262cc displacement and producing 740 CV (Cavalli Vapore or horsepower for the rest of the world) at 8500RPM. This translates into a specific output of 118 CV/l. Maximum torque of 690Nm is achieved at 6000RPM. The engine is mated to the F1 dual-clutch transmission, which has closer gear ratios developed specifically for this car’s performance. Power to weight ratio of this car is just 2.1kg/CV which is extremely impressive!
Equally impressive are the performance figures. The F12 Berlinetta drops the 0-100km/h (0-62mph) mark in only 3.1 seconds! Sprint from 100-200km/h (62-124mph) is done in 8.5 seconds. Maximum speed is rated at over 340km/h (211mph). Not surprising since this is the most powerful production car from Ferrari ever.
Performance on the track and narrow twisty roads should be equally impressive, since the car weighs in at only 1525kg which is 70 kg less than the previous V12 coupé. It is also perfectly matched to performance driving since it has a near perfect weight distribution of 54 per cent over the rear.
The F12 Berlinetta’s impressive technical specifications are completed by Ferrari’s latest generation carbon-ceramic brakes (CCM3) and the evolution of the magnetorheological suspension control system (SCM-E). As is now traditional with all Ferraris, its control systems (E-Diff, ESC, F1-Trac, and high-performance ABS) are all fully integrated.
We gotta say Ferrari really proved their status with this one! We saw many negative comments around the forums, but this is simply stunning. From performance figures to design and the level of sophistication included. It is really a masterpiece of engineering and design. More information and (somewhat low resolution for now) media gallery is available right here, so check it out!
