Lamborghini has finally unveiled its newest model, the Aventador Roadster. And no, it’s not a typo – you did expect a Lambo Spyder right? So did we.

While there is no official explanation for this, we can confirm that it will use the same 6.5 litre V12 from the hardtop, meaning that it is capable to go from 0 to 100 km/h in three seconds and will eventually hit 349 km/h, again, same as the hardtop. This really proves that Italian convertibles are indeed as fast (or even faster) than their tin-roofed counterparts.

There is also a new power rear windscreen (you know, to set the loudness of that V12) and a removable wind deflector. Oh, and that soft top is surprisingly manually operated but Lambo says it weighs only 6 kilograms so it shouldn’t be a problem.

Still, am I the only one intrigued by the name change? Spyder sounds more agressive and more purposeful whereas roadster could apply to any open top, from menacing Boxsters to pink StreetKa’s with Hello Kitty decals. In general, it suggests a more refined and docile nature. And while the Aventador does look purposeful with its jet-fighter inspired looks, that metallic blue paint and beige leather seats are more Cote’d Azur than Nurburging.

Prices start at $300,000 and the Lamborghini Aventador Roadster goes on sale next summer. Here’s a full set of images showcasing Lamborghini’s latest model right here on Italian Car Scene.
